I have occasionally used the Lake Park Ramp for many years but never again. The city has cleverly set up new parking rules combined with ambiguous and misleading signage to set you up for a hefty fine. I went there yesterday, paid the parking fee via envelope and parked, only to find that when I got in they had fined me $100 for "my trailer sticking out too far". I walked all over the parking lot, located every sign that told me I couldn't park where I parked and found them inadequate (none on the row I parked in) and very deceptive. When I finally did find the area I was supposed to use it was up by the highway and unprotected with lots of "park at your own risk" signs. I photographed everything and then I looked at the ticket, stuck to my side window with a glue patch that will require razor blading to get it off. The ticket said that I could pay it to "avoid a quasi-judicial hearing before THE TOWN'S Special Magistrate.." Yeah, I'm sure I'll get a fair shake there! If I elect to go to court "Administrative Costs for the hearing may be assessed". Right or wrong, there is no way to win this. I talked to a man who was loading his boat and he told me, "Yeah, they've set this up recently and they're writing tickets like crazy." As an innocent victim of an Old Southern Georgia town speed trap style shakedown I've no practical choice but to pay their damned fine but I hope other boaters read this and use the ramp at Blue Heron Blvd or ANY OTHER RAMP than this fund raising booby trap this crappy little town has set up.
UPDATE....we haven't been back to launch in a while. We have company who wanted to go out on the water and to Peanut Island...Memorial weekend is crazy busy, so I was very reluctant, but, the launch ramp was monitored and directed by staff who kept it moving smoothly. You stopped a few situations that could have gotten out of hand.
My favorite marina. Great people and a fun once a month sunset celebration with music and food trucks.
Shore power problem. Nice docks. Needs more security patrol.
Great free music at sunset celebration the last Friday each month (except Nov and Dec )
All I can say now is thanks!!! Thank you thank you thank you.
WOW...Love the changes!!! Marina is getting cleaned up and parking controls in place. All I can say is, it is about time.
